Biography
A one-woman show on and off the stage, Princess Nostalgia is an internationally-based producer/composer/multi-instrumentalist who curates every aspect of her work. After her self-produced catalog landed her the mentorship of Grammy-Hall of Fame engineer Dave Hillis, the Princess removed all of her music from streaming services with the intent of re-mastering them. Within weeks of her first re-release, she attained 10,000 monthly Spotify listeners and international coverage in publications with 1 million+ monthly readers.
Opening with an ominous bass line and Gorillaz-style maniacal laugh that bursts into a grimy, pulsing groove, ‘Gestalt Switch’ thrusts listeners into the horrifying uncertainty that nightmares are made of. Questioning the limits of her senses, Princess Nostalgia's effects-heavy vocals reflect nothing short of an existential crisis:
"I can’t tell the sky from the sea / I can’t make out the line / In the space between A and B / I wish I could run but, I’m out of breath / You seem so loving, but it’s only cunning."
Considering that the former philosophy major consciously rejects the lines between genres, it seems fitting that the track is all about the ambiguity of man-made boundaries.
Written, recorded, and produced by Princess Nostalgia and engineered in collaboration with Dave Hillis (who produced on Pearl Jam's "Ten"), the track seamlessly blends elements of funk, electronic, rock, and pop.
Released alongside a mind-bending music video that Nostalgia directed and edited, the ambitious young producer continues to claim her stake at the forefront of experimental electro-pop in preparation for her forthcoming EP, "NO GURU." To promote the project the Princess will embark on her first official East Coast tour this summer.
